Well, it only took us three tries (third time’s a charm), but it finally happened! After an April filled with cursed, snowy Sundays, we finally got a perfect spring day for our Yoga + Hike excursion at the Overland Park Arboretum! And it was worth the wait.
Just…WOW. What an amazing group of people moving, breathing and cultivating joyful energy. Thank you for sharing in this community exploration and being open to intentional PLAY!
Up next, Yoga + Hiking at…SWOPE PARK!
Sunday, May 27th, 10-11:30am. Hope to see you there, free spirits 🙂
Why start a Yoga + Hiking practice? Well, for starters…
Forest Therapy (immersion into restorative environments) is scientifically proven to:
- reduce stress
- relieve mental fatigue
- boost immune system
- lower blood pressure
- help regulate blood sugar levels
- boost creativity
- sharpen the senses
- improve focus
The list goes on…
So there you have it. Nature= medicine.
Nervous? Don’t fret your pretty little head. Our moderate hikes are beginner friendly and the yoga portion is all levels. So really, the question is…what’s holding you back?

It’s officially the last day of February, and you know what that means…
Yoga + Hiking is back in full swing!
If you are an adventurous yogi thinking outside the yoga studio, we’ve got you. Karma Tribe Yoga and I have been working hard to bring you the most high quality yoga hikes at beautiful, restorative destinations in and around Kansas City. This year you can look forward to even more opportunity to grow and expand your horizons. Yoga + Hiking season spans from March-November, which means you have 9 different opportunities to discover hidden gems in your own backyard and BEYOND (stay tuned to hear about our Yoga + Hiking Retreats). Travel with us to a new destination each month to explore your inner and outer worlds.
Forest Therapy (immersion into restorative environments) has been scientifically proven to reduce stress and relieve mental fatigue. Stepping away from the endless buzz of our modern world to tune in with ourselves and nature can be profoundly healing. Look no further than mother nature to recharge, create more balance in every facet of life, and connect to your deep intuitive self.
We hope to see you at our first Yoga + Hiking excursion at the Blue River Parkway Trails on Sunday, March 18 from 10-11:30am! More details coming very soon. Stay in the loop by joining our Facebook group, Yoga + Hiking with Sedona Alvarez.
Looking Forward with Love,
How cool is it that we have a holiday completely centered around LOVE?!
Often, we get swept up in the perception of Valantine’s Day as a holiday of romantic love. I’m thinking it’s time we flip the script.
Yoga teaches us to love ourselves fiercely. Before we can show compassion out in the world, we must show love to number one. Join me at Westport Yoga for a heart opening vinyasa practice followed by ample pampering (think essential oil self massage and CHOCOLATE). Bring a friend, partner or fly solo. Pre-registration is required, you can sign up riiiiight HERE 🙂
Hi friends! So I have been leading Yoga + Hiking excursions throughout Kansas City all year and it has truly been a highlight of my 2017. It is soul nourishing to see how this project continues to evolve. I’m already scheming and plotting yoga hikes for 2018…there’s even a Yoga + Hiking RETREAT in the works!
Before I get too ahead of myself, though…I’m excited to announce November’s Yoga + Hiking location:
See you Sunday, 11/12 from 10-11:30am at Weston Bend State Park!
More details and registration coming very soon 🙂

Arts and crafts are good fun and all…but what in the hell does messing with willow sticks and tying knots have to do with YOGA?
Everything, my friend.
Everything about the dream catcher is symbolic. The hoop itself (a “mandala”, in Indian culture) is a sacred circle that stands for unity and oneness. Sound familiar? Yoga literally means “to yoke”. We use our yoga practice to unite our minds with our bodies. We use the repetitive act of weaving our dream catchers to join the mind and body. You can experience flow through yoga asana or through crafting netted sculpture. Both are “art making”. Both are ways to explore moving meditation. Join our community circle o’ creativity this Saturday at Hagoyah (1-3pm) to experience moving meditation/flow!
Ps- I love this blog post detailing the history behind dream catcher making in Native American culture. Happy reading!
